brings Palestinian teachers of English to Britain in order to study language courses and refresh their language by living with British families

Volunteers should be native English speakers, living in the UK and must be 20+ on January 1st in the year in which they volunteer. There is no upper age limit but it is very demanding work in a hot climate, so you need to be fit.

American University of Beirut Summer Programs
CAMES Summer Arabic Program 2010
The Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies at the American University of Beirut will be holding an intensive summer Arabic program from June 30 until August 13, 2010. The program offers intensive Modern Standard Arabic instruction at seven different levels: Introductory, High Introductory, Low Intermediate, Intermediate, High Intermediate, Advanced and Superior. The typical daily workload includes five hours of MSA and one hour of Lebanese dialect, followed by lectures, field trips, clubs and movies which are integrated into the program. Students should also expect at least four hours of homework each day. The total of 186 classroom hours is the equivalent of 9 credit hours at AUB, which may be transferred to other universities.
The program uses the Georgetown Arabic language textbooks by Brustad, al-Batal, and al-Tonsi and other supplementary materials.

The Summer Institute for Intensive Arabic Language and Culture (SINARC) is a multi-faceted language and cultural immersion program that welcomes students from all over the world. In business for over 12 years, SINARC has quickly become a top choice for Arabic language learners looking to not only improve their language skills but also to gain a true understanding of the cultural and social dynamics in the region.
The SINARC program is hosted each year at the Lebanese American University (Beirut Campus), one of the premier institutions of higher education and research in Lebanon and the region. The campus situated in the heart of the Lebanese capital provides students a unique perspective on Lebanese culture and daily life.
SINARC offers courses in Arabic language and culture at various levels of proficiency. Each level provides twenty hours per week of intensive classroom instruction, including five hours per week of Lebanese Dialect. Formal language instruction is enriched by immersion in an authentic cultural context. Cultural activities include weekly lectures on topics related to Arab and Lebanese politics, history, society, and culture. In addition, students partake in a series of excursions to historical, cultural and tourist sites throughout Lebanon and Syria.

Students have a Summer and Fall program option:
The six-week Summer program (June 28 - August 6, 2010) is offered at four levels: Elementary, Upper Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced. A separate eight-credit course in Lebanese Dialect will be offered provided there is sufficient enrollment.
The 15-week Fall program (September 6 - December 10, 2010) is offered at two levels: Intermediate and Advanced. In addition, two special courses are available: Arabic Language Writing Skills and Middle East Challenges of the 21st Century.
Cost
Tuition ($275 per credit) - $2,200
Room (double occupancy)* [For females only] - $850
Excursions (transportation, entrance fees, one overnight stay) - $200
Total $3,250
*Note: Single occupancy in LAU dorms is $400 extra, depending on availability.
Meals and round trip travel to Beirut, books, and supplies are not included.
Round-trip tickets to Beirut cost approximately U.S.$ 1,200 from New York and approximately U.S.$ 600 from Europe. We urge participants to make travel plans as early as possible in order to take advantage of discounted prices. Participants are required to purchase comprehensive health insurance, unless they can provide evidence of comparable coverage. Emergency health insurance for coverage over the duration of the program may be purchased through LAU upon arrival for $75.
Transportation for arrival and departure between Beirut International Airport and LAU-Beirut is provided to SINARC students free of charge. Additional transportation needs within Lebanon are the responsibility of students. Taxi and bus services are reasonably priced in Lebanon.
NON-REFUNDABLE CLAUSE: Please note that there will be no refunds on program fees after the start of the session.
